The finals of the D1 Development Touch League were played in Old Wesley on Saturday 23rd. Four teams played on the day: Old Wesley and Belfast’s Cooke Warriors in one semi-final and Old Belvedere against Galway in the other semi-final.
Although Galway included some Irish Men’s Open players fresh from a silver medal at the recent European Championships, Old Belvedere came away 9-5 winners.
The final was played against a very strong Old Wesley team. It was a close affair throughout but Old Belvedere held out for a single point 8-7 victory despite a comeback from Old Wesley. Two tries from Juniors player Luke Duffy proved crucial to Old Belvedere winning the inaugural D1 league.
Old Belvedere included a great mix of Irish men’s 30s players, a mix of juniors players throughout the Summer and some new talent.
